Wafflehouse Funk:
Waffle House Funk is a 4 piece funk/fusion group out of Boulder,
Colorado. The band was first formed by Grant Rudd and Jeremy
Mohney in the spring of 2007, and we have been funking hard ever
since! With the addition of Cord Drake in the summer of 2007, and
Stephen Thurston in the summer of 2009, the band was complete.
We draw most of our inspiration from The Meters, Herbie
Hancock, Chick Corea, Victor Wooten, Tower of Power, Weather

"So, You're a Poet," presents an open poetry reading:
The "So, You're a Poet" Reading Series by Boulder's "beat book shop"
The "So, You're a Poet" reading series has several Kerouac events on its poetry calendar. Poets who have performed in this venerable, decades-old series include the late Allen Ginsberg, Bernadette Mayer (who will be in Boulder this summer for the Summer Writing Program), Diane di Prima, Janine Pommy Vega, Anselm Hollo, and many more. The series has always been hosted by poet and Kerouac School alumnus Tom Peters, owner of the Pearl Street landmark "beat book shop."
The series was hosted for many years by the famous Penny Lane Cafe. In the introduction to Poems from Penny Lane Anne Waldman writes "One thinks of the legendary Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich where the Dadaist movement was born, or the cafes and bars in San Francisco which spawned the Beat Literary Movement, also the cafe Metro and the Nuyorican Cafe, both in New York City's East Village."
The series currently takes place in the new Laughing Goat Coffeehouse, which has strong ties to the original Penny Lane. Amiri Baraka, Miguel Algarin, Lewis MacAdams, and other poets read there during last year's Summer Writing Program. The Laughing Goat is surely a Boulder literary institution in the making.

Andrew Forbes: 8:30pm - 9:30pm
Pushing the artistic boundaries of the highland bagpipes, this collaboration is a fraction of the works in progress by these young musicians. From Nova Scotia, Canada, Andrew Forbes brings together his love for traditional celtic music with the myriad of musical influences to create a unique and dynamic sound, fusing ancient and modern instrumentation and genres. Considered to be one of the nation's best pipers, Andrew is renowned for his smooth virtuosic technique, his taste for improvisation, and his fierce playing style. Scott Parker Mast is trained in African rhythms and urban drumming, assisting with African dance classes at Naropa University.

Spencer Pelton: 9:30pm - 10:30pm
"I was raised the small town of Sevierville, TN, in the shadows of both the Great Smoky Mountains and Dolly Parton. Dolly was everywhere. In street names, on billboards, in the DNA of my classmates, and even part of restaurant menus, Sevierville being the only place that I know where you can order a "Dolly-rack" of ribs. However, the simple place that Dolly Parton made millions singing about isn't so simple any more. The valleys are filled with the kitschy trappings of a Southern tourist economy and the mountains are being covered in ridge-top rental development. Some have expected from me, having been raised in the Southern Appalachians, a certain degree of traditional authenticity in my music, and I suppose being surrounded by the tones and textures of the music and by the mountains themselves has influenced the way I write, perform, and perceive the world. However, it is the irony of a region robbed of its dignity and forced to reduce its traditions to song and dance shows and an overall disenchantment with small-town life, love, and politics from which I derive my biggest inspiration for writing. Other than that, I like to think that me and Ms. Parton might have a lot in common."

Marissa Russo: 8:30pm - 9:30pm
I have been singing my entire life. In the past couple of years I started getting the urge to create my own music, so I bought myself a piano, taught myself to play and wrote a bunch of songs. Most of the songs I write are inspired by my real life experiences. Writing and playing music is basically what I do instead of going to therapy, so when you listen to my lyrics you are able to take a peak at my most intimate thoughts and feelings, some of them good, most of them probably not so good. I can't help it, happiness doesn't inspire my songwriting...

Jeremy Facknitz: 9:30pm - 10:30pm
Sounds Like "... a songwriter bitten by a radioactive rockstar." - Charlie Milo
A fairly new resident to the Colorado Springs scene, Jeremy Facknitz is a one-man acoustic act with the panache needed to become a star... armed with a melodic voice and a truckload of charisma, Facknitz almost soothed but the edge was still there. So were plenty of tapping toes. - Sydney Hamilton, The Independent.
