The history for Law of the Sea goes back to 2001 when Immy Farukhi and Geoff Morrissey met in Philadelphia as university freshman. However, it was not until both had moved to New York City when they decided to start a musical collaboration. Combining their songwriting talents, Farukhi and Morrissey began writing songs which would later become the basis for Law of the Sea. Realizing they had written a considerable amount of material, the duo decided to form a proper group, enlisting Alex White on drums, and Nate Kushner on bass.
Law of the Sea's music is a combination of Farukhi's heartfelt lyrics and reassuring vocals, Morrissey's melodic and energetic guitar, Kushner's solid low-end, and White's intricate drumming. As a band their songs explore the sonic palette, ranging from serene ballads and relaxed verses to fuzzed-out solos and memorable choruses.
Law of the Sea played it's first show on August 31, 2008 and is now performing on a regular basis in New York City. They are in the process of recording their first EP with an anticipated release date in 2009.
Cool, tight first show the other night. You guys should definitely check out those bands we said you reminded us of that you'd never listened to: Sebadoh, Archers of Loaf, and Big Country.
