The Layaways are back with another collection of bittersweet pop morsels.

Last heard from on 2004's critically acclaimed "We've Been Lost" (and a much blogged about online-only Christmas EP in 2006), the Chicago three-piece returns with its third full-length release of introspective indie pop.

While the band hasn't completely shed the "shoegaze" influence that was often noted in reviews of its first two albums, the 10 tracks on "The Space Between" reveal a wide range of influences and styles, from sunny 60's pop (All Around The World) to straight-up, driving indie rock (Keep It To Yourself). The Layaways also mix things up at the microphone, with bassist Mike Porter and guitarist David Harrell trading off on lead vocals. Yet there's an underlying consistency to the disc--all 10 songs feature the melodic hooks, wistful lyrics, and moody pop arrangements the Layaways have become known for.

Sep 9 2007 5:02 AM The best show ever was in the long,hot summer of 1996 at Rons Crossroads.Mike Porter was still wearing that house arrest ankle bracelet and had been drinking the nights pay since noon.When he went off the set list and began reciting Richard Harris poems the bottles started flying.33 stitches later he finished the show in the Akron General Emergency Room.He never found that recipe again.
