The Lesser Scene mixes multiple songwriters with a variety of influences to create a unique rock sound. Originally formed as a rock band with strings, the band has evolved into one of Chicago's favorite local bands. Each member brings their own unique musical taste that helps create the band's catchy and original sound. Their fan base continues to grow with every show.
The Lesser Scene has established itself in the Chicago music scene for the last few years, playing local club favorites including the Abbey, Subterranean, Beat Kitchen, Gunther Murphy’s, Wise Fool’s Pub, The WLUW Record Fair, and the Viaduct Theater. In January of this year, the band hit the studio to record its first EP. The band is in the process of booking various Midwest and East Coast dates to spread its fan base and promote the EP.
The Lesser Scene is interested in playing venues and college campuses across the country. If interested in booking, please e-mail info@thelesserscene.com. For more information, please visit www.thelesserscene.com.
The Lesser Scene EP Reviews:
"This new local quintet boasts multiple singer-songwriters who specialize in pulsing chamber pop. Propelled by intricate boy-girl vocals and an occasionally aggressive rock sensibility, the group mines an aesthetic that isn't entirely dissimilar from that of another local coed combo, the 1900s, though less decidedly retro. Their five-song debut EP -- highlighted by the grooving, vibes-accented "First Time Around" and the mesmeric, anthemic "Cultivation" -- won't immediately knock you off your feet, but it will grow on you." - Bob Mehr, Chicago Reader
"...This is Chicago indie rock of the old school, before the whole vibraphone crowd showed up and ruined everything...The band comes across very much as a collection of different voices rather than the ranting platform of any one demagogue even across a too-brief five songs...The last track, “Handle,” deserves particular praise for its lived-in blend of humming organs and numerous vocal strands. More, please." - Mark Donohue, "Westy Gets Mail" NudeastheNews.com
'Unlike most self-released records circulating these days in the indie rock world, Chicago’s the Lesser Scene actually have something to offer besides from helping you waste your Friday nights. The five-piece play jangly indie rock where male and female vocals intertwine and strings add depth and keep things interesting as you progress through the EP. The Lesser Scene have a late 90s indie sound most prevalently heard in hip college towns, and thus will appease Merge fans. The recording on the EP is thin, but that adds to the band’s sound and appeal, as highlighted on standouts “Astro Annie,” “The Less That You Care,” and the closer “Handle.” ' - Exoduster.com
