Decided to start throwing some ideas into the melting pot late in the day, to take one last stand against the tidal wave of crap littering the net, charts, racks of shops and bargain bins. To offer an alternative to the fakers, wannabe's, never will be's and has beens. To make music and songs and sounds totally independent of any bandwagon, scene or trend. For better or worse, for richer or poorer, to take advantage of being able to get music directly to anyone who might enjoy it. For that is the sole purpose of music........Lemmy once said there are only two types of music...."good and bad" .........and we agree!
Based in Livingston, West Lothian, The Levings were formed when Colin ‘Sid’ Baxter and Mark ‘Stranger’ Strange got together to write songs after previously being in bands together, this slowly progressed into acoustic sessions. After refining the songs they progressed into forming a full band, adding Craig Millar (Bass), Alan Strange (Keys) and Craig Purves (Drums).
The Levings although with plenty of experience in other bands are relatively new, only starting out on the gig circuit in early 2008, performing mainly in central Scotland. However in this time they have already had successful gigs including Jool’s Holland Jam House, Edinburgh, Barrowlands, Glasgow and Moho Manchester as well as a number of local festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
2009 has seen the band nominated for a ‘Best Out Of Area’ award at the Exposure Music Awards covering Southern England, a number one entry on Unsignedchart.com and two top ten entries on Tourdates.co.uk. With live dates already scheduled plus new material in the pipeline, things are looking busy.
"The Levings confess, that as a band they are still in their infancy. Well there's evidence here that they're actually pretty much together already" - Toxic Pete Feb 08
"Hey Guys, Loving the tracks.. keep it up!" - MTV2
"From Bluesbunny's experience of bands from Livingston, something loud and brash was expected but this 5 piece band were altogether more laidback with Colin Baxter's confident vocals shining through on songs like "Daylight Breaking" and the sublime "Quiet Town". - Bluesbunny Live Review, Barrowlands 2
"Bridging the gaps between twangy modern folk, hearty Britpop and pristine '80s sparkle like a ten-legged pair of comfy cords, Livingston quintet The Levings are all about putting a new spin on classic styles. This is an ep of clever songs, smartly played. An ep of quiet moments, massive choruses and lots of lovely piano bits." Overplay.com
"Solid, good time popsters" "Straight onto the indie dancefloor" Teletext Planet Sound
