About Lexie... in Philly

*F a c t:

Lexie was born in Philadelphia and began singing by the age of three. She was performing in all kinds of talent show cases including a local Sunday children..s show "The Al Albert Talent Showcase" in 1967 featuring songs such as "Hello Dolly and I Enjoy Being A Girl."

*F i c t i o n:

At age 11 she won a Tony for the role of Dorothy in "The Wiz ". Lexie starred in the Broadway version of Annie.

*F a c t:

Throughout her schooling, Lexie studied drama and dance and would perform every opportunity she had.

*F i c t i o n:

By the age of 10 yrs, Lexie mastered the piano, guitar, tenor sax, flute, kazoo, and the Native American war drum.

*F a c t:

At age 13, Lexie moved to Maryland and decided to learn the guitar so she could have instant accompaniment whenever she wanted to sing. She decided on the guitar because she thought a piano would be too hard to drag to the beach.

*F i c t i o n:

Lexie published a progressive chord pattern book for other child virtuosos, and her book sold a bazillion copies.

*F a c t:

Self taught, the first three chords she learned were A, D and E7. After mastering these chords in one month, she decided it was time to express herself and write her own music. You can only imagine what they sounded like, being 13 and knowing three chords. None the less, her song writing began.

*F i c t i o n:

As a teen, Lexie grew up on Rock & Roll tour busses & traveled with her mother, who sang with Bands such as The Rolling Stones, E.L.O., Bachman Turner Overdrive, Alice Cooper, The Police, and Frank Zappa.

*F a c t:

Throughout her teenage years, she continued to perform in "Summer Stock" and area theatre, when she wasn..t doing school shows. She performed with Aaron Copland at Woof Trap in Vienna, Virginia, along with Beverly Sills. She continued her classical vocal training and sang in numerous choirs that traveled the East coast and Midwest.

*F i c t i o n:

Lexie was tutored and studied hard on the tour busses, and was able to take her GED & acquire a degree in music, theatre, and the fine arts at the age of 16. At 17 she was asked to play lead guitar when Keith Richards didn..t show up for a concert in Stockholm. She played so well, that she was asked by the king of Sweden to play solo the following day at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. When President Jimmy Carter heard about this performance, he asked her to do an encore performance at the White House the following week.

*F a c t:

Lexie continued to write songs on her guitar and learned many more chords by the time she graduated high school in 1977. So much so, she was asked to write a song for her graduation ceremony and performed it at Shady Grove Music Fair in Shady Grove, Maryland.

*F i c t i o n:

Lexie was constantly being asked to star in movies and was called upon at least once a week by Hollywood producers throughout her career, but she refused, saying that ....Forget that silver screen, Music is where it..s at, man....

*F a c t:

Lexie studied music and theater in college, but would perform on weekends at some college bars with her guitar. Some of the music she covered was Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Loggins and Messina, The Eagles, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Heart to name a few.

*F i c t i o n:

In 1979 Lexie was worth well over a million dollars, and owned 3 major recording labels in the New York area. She was responsible for bringing to light such talented artists as Sheryl Crow, The Dixie Chicks, Dire Straits, The Captain and Tennille, Brittany Spears, and Frosty the Coke Man.

*F a c t:

In 1979, Lexie left college due to illness and moved back to Philly to live with her parents and recuperate. It was there she met up with her partner in music, Steve Ellington, and made the choice to do rock and roll instead of continuing on to Broadway. They first worked as an acoustic duo, and then formed a band called Camouflage doing all kinds of music from classic rock to the go go's. In 1984 they formed an original band known as Fifty/50. Philly was a hot spot for original talent during that time. Bands like The Hooters, Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers, Robert Hazzard, Bon Jovi, Pretty Poisin were all coming out of this fold. Fifty/50 had the opportunity to play with Robert Hazzard and played many of the same venues as they did.

Fifty/50 did their last gig when Lexie was 7 months pregnant and had to stop because she was afraid the baby was gonna kick her off the stage.

Lexie has continued writing music, while raising three sons and is getting ready to introduce her debut CD entitled, ..L E X I E...
