The Liberty Balance is an idea!...An idea in fact realized in a small, remote forest cabin in 2006.Originally the two founding members, singer/writer Mike H (øjgaard) and multi instrumentalist Albert Raft, met in 2001 in the jazz/rock band Mike H Project(Later MikeH)
releasing two albums, “Steady Unsteady” (2003) and “Peninsula” (2004).
In 2005, the drummer, bass and guitar player left Mike H Project to form the acclaimed
Danish band, “I Got You on Tape”. Albert and Mike continued their collaboration and
decided on striking what is now known as The Liberty Balance.
The two set out to explore the integrate basics that distinguish good songs.
In particular, how to craft simple songs that maintain a powerful expression.
In the beginning it was about boiling things down to mere vocals accompanied by
acoustic guitar. As for style - everything was open – there were no rules. Given
this discipline, it took one year to write the first 25 songs from which the 9
tracks that comprise the debut album to be released may 11th 2009, were carefully selected.
The entity of the final production delivers a warm acoustic sound. With several
tracks featuring duet vocals and instrumented occasionally with everything from
a saw to strings to classical percussion. The music fills a space that is deep with genre, but resists being labeled.. The leitmotif being vocals atop well-built harmonics, which steer clear of complexity. Exploring the basics of one chord - three notes. Carefully coloring the chords onlywhen needed.
