The Lillywhite Sessions at Avatar Studios is a new aspect of The World Cafe Radio Show on National Public Radio. Featuring Record Producer Steve Lillywhite, the shows are taped live at the legendary Avatar Recording Studios in New York City.
The first session, featuring She & Him, aired Wednesday June 11, 2008. In the second hour of this first installment, World Cafe host David Dye interviewed Lillywhite, focusing on the U2 album War, one of the producer's many notable achievements.
Steve Lillywhite entered the music scene when he was 17 as a tape operator with London's Polygram Studios and has been making records for more than 35 years. Among others, he has produced albums with bands such as U2, Dave Matthews Band, Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel, XTC, The La's, Morrissey, The Rolling Stones, The Pogues and The Talking Heads. He has won numerous accolades in his career including the Grammy® Award for Producer of the Year. He is known for his ability to inspire artists and has been instrumental in shaping many career-making albums and songs.
