As soon as they were chosen by Don Richmond (Music Producer) for 'The Apprenticeship Programme' organised by NOISE Singapore in 2008, Haffiz, Khair and Amin decided to join forces to form 'The Lion Story'. Armed with the ambitious goal of producing a 7-track EP by the end of the programme, the band wasted no time in preparing themselves for a launch into the local music scene.
After performing for the first time at The Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, the band released 'The Lion Story EP' and it received positive reviews from industry professionals such as Kevin Mathews from 'Power of Pop' and Christopher Toh from 'TODAY'. With songs such as 'Something's Going On (Feat. Don Richmond)', 'Fill You In', 'Segala Yang Kau Impikan' and 'Kucing Kemari' already hitting the local airwaves, the band is well on their way to creating a mark in the music industry.
The 3 ex-schoolmates are currently writing a full-length album which is scheduled to be released in 2010. You can expect to be drawn deep into the pages of The Lion Story with their brand of vibey tunes which are filled with catchy beats and infectious melodies.
Quotes
"This mini-album by new trio The Lion Story is as refreshing as a mint julep on a hot day... This is one of the better debuts and the DIY initiative doesn't lack in quality at all. The optimistic What If, uplifting Fill You In and the Malay ballad Segala Yang Kau Impikan are standout tracks."
- Christopher Toh, TODAY Newspaper
"Writing, Performing, Recording and Mixing their own material on a debut CD? The Lion Story approach their music with a Wide Eyed Gaze, Fist in the Air and a Hand on their Hearts. Their bravery is THE winning formula, the melodies they write are a treat. I'm actually excited for the first time in a long long while." - Don Richmond, Steam!
"Filled with power-pop melodies, tight harmonies and killer hooks, this is a stunning debut. The Lion Story is the best new thing to hit the Singapore music scene."
- Patrick Chng, walkonmusic.net
"Stars & the World is probably one of the best Beatlesque pop songs I’ve heard on these shores since maybe the sixties. Melodic hooks, pristine harmonies and tasteful arrangements permeate this track." - Kevin Mathews, powerofpop.com
