  • Bio

The Listening Device was formed in 2004 and have independantly released 2 albums, ‘Scented Waters’(2005)and ‘Human Gold’(2008).Their third album ‘View From The Asylum’ has just been completed and to be released in 2011. During this time the band has gigged extensively including performances at Highclere Rocks where they supported a number of major artists including Eric Clapton,Bryan Ferry and Roger Waters..They have also supported Jools Holland on two occasions and last year played on the main stage at the Llama Festival after Thea Gilmore. Other gigs have included performances at the Glade Festival and in London at various legendary venues including Dingwalls, The Half Moon in Putney and the Cuckoo Club. They have also been flown out to both France and Italy to play at private parties. In recent times the band's main energy has been devoted to the recording of ‘View From The Asylum’, with the song writing, as ever, built around the music of classically trained pianist Janet Thompson and the lyrics of lead vocalist Harry Worcester. The music does not conform to any precise genre but could perhaps be described as literate progressive rock, placing more importance on melody than pyrotechnics, in the manner of early Genesis or Procol Harum.Jools Holland described the band as occupying "an unusual area somewhere between Nick Cave and Ray Charles",whilst other suggestions have included "what would happen if Tom Waits became lead singer of Coldplay" and "Bruce Springsteen for the white collar worker." Lyrically the band have never been embarassed to tackle rather unrock 'n' roll subject matter such as the legacy of Tony Blair and the decline of the Conservative Party and this tradition continues on the new album with songs about French president Nicolas Sarkozy, or more specifically his wife, sitting alongside more surrealistic fantasies about abduction by aliens and the autobiographical 'And God Created Woman' All of the male members are of what might be termed a certain age but are bound together in their ambition by an enduring love of the music they play and a 'the flame never dies mentality'.

Hehe ... I do of course still love your music guys, (just to make my last comment absolutely clear, it reads badly don't it lol x) ;o)... thought you and Joshua Radin were both at the same gig ... but note from Joshua's profile, that he is appearing on the 10th.

Guess the talent needs to be spread out a bit... too much of a good thing all at once to have you both appearing on the same bill hehe

    Both Gigs will be ACE!

    Enjoy!
    LoL xx
