Brought together in late 2005 by Shane Hollands, Auckland-based performance poetry group, The Literatti, have been presenting their fusion of poetry, music, and theatre to delighted audiences since 2006.
The Literatti utilise aspects of theatre, music, song, and still and moving visual art to supplement performance and poetry. We do not read or even recite poetry, Literartists work to personify poetry. With their signature multiple-poet performance pieces, The Literatti create an almost symphonic display of contemporary word play. The group creates an atmosphere or environment within which the poem can exist using sets, back-drops and other elements which are usually considered to belong to the realm of theatre, transforming the poem into a living entity with movement, breath and behaviour.
The Literatti are currently working on a new show with Chicago-based performance poet, Nikki Patin. Their long-distance collaboration, Growl, will hit the stage at The London Bar on March 7th in conjunction with the 2009 Auckland Fringe Festival.
The Literatti are also available for performance workshops, both with adults and with high-school students. Their recent project, Snapshots, involved working with 27 year 10 EGGS students. The end product being a 30 minute student-written, performance poetry show which opened for One Foot Forward at The Lady Fisher Auditorium.

Love what you've got going on over here! 'American Dream' is brilliant, though it sounds more like an Los Angeles dream. We are a lot less shallow and bit more 'like it is' over here in NYC! At least, I think we are! But it packed a punch, for certain. I have to still go through all the video's, but hats off to you...brilliant stuff! All the best, Cyndi D.

We invite you to listen to DIAL-A-DIVA on Saturday 8th September.
VOCAL PERFORMERS from around the world have signed up for a 24 hour arts extravaganza that's shaping up to be one of this year's cultural highlights.
DIAL-A-DIVA connects an audience and performers by telephone, for 24 hours on September 8th 2007.
Each artist's performance is transmitted via their telephone into a conference call. The audience can then dial in to listen to the phonecast. An internet webcast will also be available. The event will start in New Zealand at 8pm local time. We will follow 8pm around the world with artists participating throughout Australasia, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas. It will culminate 24 hours later as 8pm crosses the dateline once more.

The Literatti left the party
at the hottest time of the day -
blazing and lazing a little longer
enjoying even longer grass
before loading reggae legs and writer's gears into white car (black pants)
and rolling out of Parihaka
Literartists...It was so good to kick back in that hot-tent hangi of poetry soul-food at Parihaka and see you shine...Hands in the air! Under the mountain. Festival fun eh?
