Little Temple

The owners of Santa Monica's Zanzibar and live music favorite, Temple Bar, have branched out to the east, giving Silver Lake / East Hollywood's dank ex-Garage space a stunning makeover. The look suggests Buddhist temple tranquility by way of Chinese lanterns, bamboo-lined walls, rock gardens and countless votive candles. Comfortable booths in the foyer give way to a simple raised stage in the main room which features DJs and live musicians alike. The adjacent Moroccan-inspired lounge is highlighted by the communal "Afghan Bedroom" (which can be reserved for parties) and a wall-sized photo mural of a holy man. Though the outside is quite discreet, but for a sign pointing you directly to the front door of this hot spot, the mood at Little Temple is welcoming, elegant and cozy --though some nights do get the crowd working up a sweat. The Draw: The nightly lineup is anchored by a mix of live music and club nights with styles ranging from deep house, hip-hop/soul, reggae, indie and Afro-Latin. Regardless of the music, the alternately tousled and urbane crowd is a fun mix of Silver Lake hipster and partiers looking for a low-maintenance alternative to the often stressful Hollywood scene.
