Mission/History:
The LIVE Foundation, INC. exists to encourage a more compassionate, conscious awareness and response to people living with HIV/AIDS throughout Fairfield County, as well as to assist with preventing the spread of the virus.
The organization originated in 2003. Through extreme passion and valiant efforts made by the committee, the concept of LIVE has evolved from a school project into a 501(C)(3) tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization. The LIVE Foundation, INC. has raised over $30,000.00 in a relatively short period of time via fundraising efforts to support agencies that also serve people living with HIV/AIDS. The organization has also conducted other initiatives such as the collection of gifts during the holidays for teenagers and young adults who are infected with the virus.
Primary Purposes:
-To raise awareness about HIV/AIDS within the community, as well as creating unique prevention efforts to decrease risky behaviors that contribute to the acquiring of HIV.
-If needed, to raise funds from within the community and then filter them back to agencies that have sustained budget cuts in various areas.
-To research, identify and assess needs throughout Fairfield County pertaining to HIV/AIDS and to work to fill gaps in services.
-To approach key advocates for PLWHA and bring them all together on a quarterly basis, just to discuss, network, brainstorm, offer mutual support and to create a strong foundation of influence throughout the entire state (not just administrators from various agencies, because consortiums and scheduled meetings, etc. already exist, but more, to bring diverse people together who are passionate about populations at risk). Part of our mission is to participate in efforts such as these, to encourage society at large to pay attention to HIV/AIDS. As much as people would like to believe that the virus is becoming a 'non-issue' or that the rates of infection are decreasing, the simple reality is that their beliefs are false. We need to change that.
