We're cousins. We look alike and everything. After our grandmother died (God rest her soul) her stoner-hippy husband scattered her ashes in the New Mexican desert. Whereupon he saw a vision of a mysterious buffalo. Then he took a hit and when he looked back it was gone because, in his words, "it was a ghost buffalo man! A freakin' ghost buffalo!" Scotty and I met at our grandmother's memorial. He was fourteen and I was twentyfour. Now we play in a singer songwriter set-up, with me on guitar and Scotty on keyboards. It's sort of depressing.
The East Bay punk band Soup once said, "GIVE UP NOW, TOMORROW WILL BE MUCH WORSE." The Lonesome cry of the Ghost Buffalo has taken this to heart. We gave up yesterday. What remains is a funeral dirge played on guitar and keyboards. Beauty through sorrow. Have you ever been driving with someone you don't particularly like, and there's a hush between you, and you look out the window and on the roadside is a single dirty child-size tennis shoe? And it could mean nothing at all, but it doesn't paint a pretty picture. That's us. That's The Lonesome Cry of the Ghost Buffalo.
