“T-Dub has definitely tapped into an innovative sound that respectfully mimics their predecessors while it simultaneously breathes new life into music in general” - LA Times 2009
Joe Bartone, Boston guitarist (Berklee, Sun-Ra Tribute Arkestra, Extropians) formed Thelonious Dub in August of 2007. Joined with
Brandon Schmidt - Upright Bass (Masters CalArts – Charlie Haden, Darek "Oles" Oleszkiewicz), Sean Rainey- drums (Berklee), Kyle O'Donnell - sax (U North Texas), They perform original compositions as well as instrumental versions of tunes by Monk, Radiohead, The Police and others - all interleaved with New Orleans and Reggae Dub influences.
Modeled after the "Modern Lounge" sound, T-Dub draws from groups like Weather Report, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation and Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare. To pursue this sound, Thelonious Dub adds electric sitar, synthesizers, & effects.
I listened to everything you gave me. A few of the albums wouldn't work because Itunes said I needed your password, but it was a huge chunk of music. I really like Ernest Ranglin. Thanks so much: it really freshened up my ipod. Is the Greek Theater hike this Sunday at 7pm? Could I bring my girlfriend?
I can't clog up your page with pretty pictures? Uncle Sam tossed me a few bucks back for being such a good American. I was thinking of picking up an Italia Maranello bass. They're as tacky as me, only thing tho, nobody on this coast knows anything about 'em. Some words of wizdom from the master?
joseph, so good to see you are doing so well with the band and life in general. congrats and keep up the good work. wish we could come to see t.dub. regards, alan
