The songs of Dave McConnell brought together the musicians who became the Lopers. Varied tales from a view of life in rural southern Indiana, these songs cover a lot of ground: Good humor and time well wasted; the telling of tales and spooky nights; love, time and loss; the double edge of the wisdom and wistfulness of age; the sense of place and life on the land.
Along with Dave's acoustic guitar and lead vocals, the current Lopers line-up includes Richard Groner on Dobro, mandolin, guitar and vocals and steve V. johnson on bass.
These musicians bring eclectic influences to the songs, and bluegrass, traditional Irish, blues, Old Time and country can be heard in the mix.
In 2004 the Lopers released their first CD "Ghosts Like Me". The CD was voted one of the 4 best releases of 2004 by the Bloomington Hearld Times Newspaper.
In October of 2008 the Lopers released their second CD, "There Was A Time". This CD features the regular Lopers line-up along with many of Bloomington, Indiana's finest musicians including Doug Enoch on guitar, Maggie Olivo, Bjorn Delacruz, Gloria Bruner and T.J. Hull on fiddle, Lee Cohn on drums, Min Gates on bones and bodhran and Bobbie Lancaster on backing vocals. The CD features three live cuts and two cover songs as well as original songs written by Dave McConnell and Richard Groner.
