The Lost Years's Interests
|
| General | Laughing with my children, running, swimming, writing and sitting with my husband after a long days work remembering how we met and how far we have come. | | Music | I am fan of soul and truth. I like folk singers because they paint a picture of their lives, aches and joys with their voice and their songs. I liked to be moved. I own every Jewel Cd ever made. I love Tracy Chapman, and Jack Johnson and today I was listening to Blue October, far from folk music, but honest and passionate all the same. | | Movies | I have children so I don’t see movies much anymore except for the animated stories. | | Television | I have not watched TV in a long time. For the last three years, once my children were asleep, I worked on the book with my mom. We would sit on the phone for hours and relive the years we lost. She would talk to me about what it was like for her to watch me throw my life away. I would cry and write and she would talk long into the night. My TV watching fell to the side. | | Books | The Lost Years, of course! I must be honest; I have not read a book for leisure in a long time. I have read many text books but my free time over the last many years has been spent recovering and writing my own book. | | Heroes | When I was young I had heroes, like most young girls. I wanted to be like the models and athletes of the day. And then I became addicted and homeless and my heroes and dreams drained from me like dirty water down a drain. Slowly, in recovery, I began to admire others again. However my heroes remain close to home: my dad for his strength, my brother for his ideals and priorities, my sister for her perseverance and my youngest sister for never doubting what she wanted to do with her life. My husband, who has been able to be with me for 10 years, and my children and god son who never fail to see the good in people. And my mom who is the bravest women I know. Lastly, I admire anyone who chooses to change their lives one day at time. These are my heroes today. |

The Lost Years's Blurbs |
About me:
My name is Kristina and this book, The Lost Years, is about transformation and redemption for two women, who are mother and daughter. The Lost Years chronicles my long crawl back from the edge of existence as a homeless drug addict to a professional working with families who are suffering with a loved ones addiction. The book is made even more compelling because it is co authored with my mom. She describes her own descent into darkness and the helplessness of watching your child destroy her self. After many failed attempts to help, my mom had to make the heart breaking choice to let me go. She had to close the door on one of her children to save herself and the other three. What followed was a nightmare that ended in my near death. What follows is miraculous.

Anyone who is inspired by the story that unfolds on the pages of The Lost Years. If this story inspires people to change then it is a compliment to my life and struggles. I want people to know that change is possible. If I can change my life, anyone can. And Oprah.
