wisdom and compassion
gratefulness is humbly accepting
giving is giving up what is dear
ethics is doing good for others
patience is generating feelings of kindness
dedication is joy that increases all goodness
concentration is peaceful meditation
wisdom decides what truth really is
compassion is the highest wisdom
a deep love for all that lives
gratefulness increases joy
giving creates abundance
ethics create a happy world
patience brings the glow of beauty
majesty comes from dedication
concentration brings peacefulness
wisdom gives everyone freedom
compassion achieves all we wish
a person who takes all eight of these
and perfects them together will reach
that place of inconceivable knowledge
no less than a universal world protector
it is not the outer form that counts
whether one gives little or much
it is the feelings that one sends out
into the vast expanse of space
that makes the world move in favor
they are the carriers of the energy
that supports the ocean of life
the source of this power is in you
it is the lotus jewel that you carry
which bestows you with a crown of light
only you can make it shine clear and bright
god did not kindle this crown of light
to be hidden under a dim basket
but to place it on a lamp stand
to brighten up all souls that live
dare to be the flame that you are
god will shower you with blessings
beyond your wildest imaginations

a human being is part of a whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. we experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. this delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
the true value of human beings is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self. we shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive.
you imagine that i look back on my life's work with calm satisfaction. but from nearby it looks quite different. there is not a single concept of which i am convinced that it will stand firm, and i am not sure if in general i am on the right track.

so why is it that beings like you and me and every one else is suffering?
my dear friend i want to give you the ultimate answer to this question now
but in order to be able to bring your spirit back home to where it came from
i have to introduce an old friend of mine that you might not wish to see now
you must not be afraid of him for he is an angel in the service of love as i am
if you are afraid now it only means that your lotus jewel has impurities inside
my old friend has many names that you might once have heard on your path
i call him mahakala and he is my other half - the dark side of love - the evil
while my job is to purify your spirit with the living waters of paradise
his job is to purify your immortal spirit with the deathful fires of hell
try to see the big picture that we are just doing the same job for you
there is no way for a soul to create a world without these two polarities
when polarities collapse everything would just become emptiness and bliss
you are the spirit trapped in the illusion of a body creating your own world
everything you see in the world is just a message from yourself to yourself
even lotus jewel and mahakala are creations of your own mind but not real
and both of us want to bring you back home and out of this trap to nirvana
back into the light and love and peace in the presence of the one spirit
while my tools are wisdom and compassion his tools are pains and fear
i admit he appears to be a rough guy but that is only in your mind
he is an angel in the service of the one spirit as much as i am
the little being that he crushes under his feet is your ego
the illusion that beings you see around you are not you
drink this cup of ultimate wisdom and you will be free
accept your own suffering as a gift of compassion
when you suffer this only means that you are
still in need of developing more compassion
if you see yourself trapped in darkness
the only way to bring yourself to light
is to bring light to sentient beings
for they are a part of your spirit
and all you can see are one
in order to heal the world
you got to heal the part
within in your own mind
that creates the pain

A Thanksgiving Prayer
In the spirit of humility we give thanks for all that is.
We thank the great spiritual beings who have shared their wisdom.
We thank our ancestors who brought us to where we are now.
We are grateful for the opportunity to walk this planet,
to breathe the air,
to taste the food,
to experience sensations of a human body/mind,
to share in this wonder that is life.
We are grateful for the natural world that supports us,
for the community of humankind that enables us to do many wondrous things.
We are grateful that we are conscious,
that as intelligent beings we can reflect upon the many gifts we have been given.
