We are a UK Cambridge-based band formed by Rob Jackson (guitarist with Boo Hewerdine and ex. Broken Family Band) around the songwriting and vocal talents of Australian Emily Barker.
The Sound
Delicate acoustic guitar, ethereal vocals, atmospheric bass and electric guitars are interwoven to convey folky, sensual songs about relationships, travel and longing; the very staple of country music.
A sparse Americana type sound that calls to mind the likes of both Lucinda Williams and Low - Sound On Sound magazine feature / interview
Emily Barker's songs, as well as her voice, have a tempered reverence that coats the sadness with an aura of beauty. A terrific new voice - Miles Of Music online CD store
Indeed, Barker's voice not only breathes new life into established classics but can also make a new song sound like it may have already been a classic that somehow passed you by - americana-uk website review
The Band Live
Every so often a new talent comes along on the broad folk/acoustic/roots scene that demands to be heard - Folk & Roots online
They have injected a British subtlety into a quintessential American art-form - Maverick magazine live review
The Album
Our 2003 self-released CD, "welcome to..." has been warmly received and we're currently promoting the eagerly awaited follow-up, entitled The Dark Road.
We're talking pure audio magic here. It takes a while for this laidback album to overwhelm, but when it does, it will lead to repeated listening pleasure (4/5 stars) - Maverick magazine "welcome to..." review
Ciarafest 12 - Sat, Dec 6th, The Portland Arms, Cambridge
The Cathode Ray Syndrome*, The Tupolev Ghost, We Rock Like Girls Don't and The Last Dinosaur
Four great bands for just £6, all of which is going to the charity Premrose to raise money for The Rosie Maternity Ward at Addenbrooke's Hospital. We Got Tickets takes no profit (just a little for costs) from the sale of these tickets - bloody good on 'em we say. Get there early.
Alright, Alright, I've been neglecting Myspace for a while now... but now I'm back and all updated:
Two new songs - Ford's In Heaven (the one that got us famous) and Everybody's Girl (a true story about a girl I dated, wish I could be around when she sees that it's all over myspace now - I'd love to get a grass roots style of thing going where people use that song as their main page song! Let me know if you do it, I'd love ya forever!!!)
New pics and videos - Clips from a couple live performances (including the grossest fan ever - look for the video titled "Buggy"), rodeo (bull and bronc riding) clips from when I was getting started as a teenager, and one of our horses racing.
Also, I wanted to let you know about my songwriting buddy's site - if you go there, let him know you did, he's funny and an all around great guy!http://www.myspace.com/docunderdog
Thanks to everyone out there for the support, for listening, and for letting me be a part of your Myspace - I look forward to hearing from you (especially opinions on the new tunes), and I hope this finds you well!
PS: I'm sorry that this message is so "spam like", I had to write this ahead of time and someone a little more computer savy is putting all this on my site from their PC.
