WHAT'Z IN A NAME?

The MacLeaNZ band name came about when New Zealand's celebrity music newly weds YULIA and Glyn decided to brand their pop rock folk performances.

MacLean, as a name, finds it's origins in the Scottish clans. The clan motto being "Virtue Mine Honour". The "NZ" at the end of MacLeaNZ, is a feature designed to draw attention to "New Zealand".

VOCALIST / WRITER: "YULIA"

YULIA (www.yulia.co.nz) is one of NZ's most celebrated singers, achieving 7 times platinum sales for her two Popera (Classical Crossover) albums INTO THE WEST and MONTAGE and winning two of NZ's highest awards (TUI's) for "BEST FEMALE VOCALIST" and "HIGHEST SELLING ALBUM" (Debut album INTO THE WEST - 2005).

YULIA fronts "The MacLeaNZ" with a voice that has a haunting and unique tonal quality. She has been compared to Kate Bush, Celine Dion, Karen Carpenter, Eva Cassidy and Edith Piaf. A talented songwriter herself, YULIA delivers catchy pop melodies and inspiring stage performances. Her Russian roots and ability to sing in six languages make YULIA attractive to international audiences.

PIANIST / PRODUCER: GLYN MACLEAN

Glyn's talent came into public recognition on Television NZ's "CLOSE UP" in 2006 when his songs FLY and WALK AWAY went up against the music of David Gray and James Blunt for the TV series "Las Vegas". Glyn has 9 songs (and counting) licensed in Hollywood. He has composed a number of popular tunes and songs including "ANZAC TRIBUTE" which is an officially sanctioned composition used to promote NZ's ANZAC DAY. His tune "RAIN CLOUD AND THE SUNSHINE" has placed as high as number two position at www.amplifier.co.nz
