The Madisons were a 4 piece Indie/Rock band from Yeovil, Somerset. They originally formed as a piano and guitar driven 5 piece band in 2004 called Pocket Shotgun.
Between 2004 and 2006, their home town of Yeovil had little to offer them musically so Pocket Shotgun established themselves as regulars on the Bristol music scene, regulary playing the well known venues there including The Fleece and Firkin, The Bierkeller and The Louisiana, as well as other well known music venues throughout the South West.
2005 ended in spectacular style as the band headlined one of the first ever John Peel night’s at Mr Kyps in Poole, Dorset.
In early 2006, the band were dealt a massive blow when one of their main songwriters had to leave the band. This not only left them one member down with no piano, but also minus a good friend. After much deliberation, they decided to continue as a 4 piece, change their musical direction and become a spiky, punchy, guitar driven indie band.
After all their hard work to get back on track, 2006 ended in even more spectacular style as the band supported not only britpop legends The Bluetones but also mod rockers The Rifles.
In mid 2007 they decided to change their name to The Madisons. They continued where they left off at the end of 2006 and in 2007 alone, played over 70 shows in well known venues all over the UK, one of the highlights being the Carling Academy in Bristol. They also became regulars on the London scene playing legendary venues such as The Bull and Gate, Dublin Castle and Sound nightclub at Number 1 Leicester Square. The band were also regulary supporting well known bands such as Shiny Toy Guns, Jakobinarina and Malakai to name a few.
Towards the end of 2007, after much thought, the band made the very hard decision to call it a day. This however, didn’t stop them going out in spectacular style with a sell out homecoming and joint headline show with Britpop survivors Electrasy.
After many years and hundreds of gigs, this seemed the perfect way for the band to say their goodbyes.
Their dream may now have gone but we hope their legacy lives on.
