Originally formed in Spring 2001 by founding members Dan Clark and Michael Simmonds (guitar and violin respectively), The Magic Number specialise in Gipsy Jazz Swing based songs.
With variants of Instrumentation of Double Bass, violin, 2x guitars, trumpet, drums and four part harmonies, they perform regularly around the country as everything from a duo up to a full six/ seven piece band.
They have played all sorts of events from celebrity parties to grannies birthdays, from corporate events to barn dances, from weddings to late night sessions at festivals, and from raucous club nights to subdued garden parties, often in the same weekend.
You can catch them in their full band guise on the third saturday of every month at The Joogleberry playhouse, and as a duo at a number of clubs and restaurants around town, including here! (keep an eye on listings for details).

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
