You decide - Sam Bush at his most creative and quirky? David Grissman at the end of a wild party? Hard to pin down ... fun, though, and often Rockin' hard, incongruously ...

Playing music in the Smoky Mts was a blast
(devamı)
I'm a lifetime musician. Mother took me to her symphony orchestra rehearsals and performances before and after birth. I played violin (and later viola) from age 5 to 15, played drums and percussion from an early age, picked up guitar at 12 and played lead guitar and bass in various bands until I was 26. Then came back to music at age 42 and it has just gotten better since. Now I'm working on new solo material as well as playing with a very casual band under the name DSM (Damn Sexy Man) with Chris Hedley (member of the previous/original DSM - album available at CDbaby.com), Rachel Francese, Markus Nee, and Rick Carter. I also jam once or twice a month on electric guitar and mandolin with great bass player Ben Piner, a guitar and bass player with an encyclopedic knowledge of rock music - Terry Gordinier, and varying drummers (Lem Joyner of Detroit most recently).
I am playing more music than ever these days, but not gigging anywhere unless asked. I am mostly focused on making songs for youtube and then obsessively watching the hit counts. My songs are mostly autobiographical, so you can learn a lot about my relationship with my music by watching/listening to "Can a Mandolin Rock?" and my newest song "A Modern Problem: Nobody Looks at My Web Page", among others. "It's OK to Cry" and "The Laid Off Blues" were two of four songs I wrote within 24 hours of being laid off from my 10+ year job at Ford's last year. "Dream of You" (also known as "The Dream") was written from a daydream I had about my late second wife, Marty - one of the most deeply inspired songs I've ever written. (Book mark my channel to catch more of my quirky songs as I get them up there - I've got a bunch in the works at any given time ...)
I get a lot of encouragement from my brother in law, Dr. Dave Peters, who lives in the Smoky Mountains and has a great band. He's a very funny award winning songwriter, and says I should "keep writing the quirky stuff and putting it on youtube - somebody will notice eventually". His latest video is "I'm changing my name to A.I.G." and his band is at Irons in the Fire Music. I go down to see him every chance I get, and we always end up playing together at a local restaurant, bar, campground, or on his front porch.
Another person who encourages me greatly is my great friend Hugh Hitchcock, who was with me in the Martian Entropy Band and created that web site. Check out the old concert recordings, slide show, and even the video we made (6 years before MTV!). Very funny and crazy stuff from the hippie jazz-rock tradition(?). Hugh moved down to Miami FL 25+ years ago, but has been making websites as a day job, and both created MartianEntropyBand.com to commemorate our last band (which broke up in March of 1975) and also gave me www.mandolinmaniac.com as a birthday gift a couple of years ago. Hugh's very funky and modern music can be found at www.funkenstein.com as well as his myspace page. This guy is a true music professional. His latest album was produced almost entirely in his laptop - amazing. Just a few saxaphone, voice, keyboard, and guitar tracks, and the rest is all computer generated and massaged. He also has a funny video with George W. doing all the vocals at "Make No Mistake".
Life is good, and all I can say is "Keep on Jammin'!"

Tim, these tunes are great!! I'm glad I've gotten the chance finally hear them! I hope you are Barb are doing well, I send you positive vibes from the heart of Austin, TX
Hey dad! Im glad you finally entered the world of myspace. If you would do me a favor and put Mart's song up here for me, maybe then I can make it my song on my page. I tried to do it from the copy you sent me in email, but it has to be on myspace already. I dunno how it works, but I would really love that song! Plus your blues-ey stuff is my favorite!
