It’s hard to know from their juddering, righteous roar whether The Manhattan Project want to fight you or party with you, but maybe that’s the point – the Leicester four-piece make music littered with an array of dizzying contradictions, where classic rock’n’roll anthems meet careening post-punk grooves, where songs sound like malevolent, distorto-lit cousins of Primal Scream and early Verve one minute and Interpol with a swagger the next.
The quartet may have only formed just over two years ago, but they’ve wasted no time in making a mark on their hometown in the form of their blistering, attention-demanding live shows. Having garnered a strong local following, they were soon rewarded with support slots with the likes of The Enemy and Arctic Monkeys. They spent 2008 honing their sound – it isn’t easily tamed – and now The Manhattan Project are set to unleash a batch of new material and their first release.
