LADIES AND GENTLEMANS! A new live song from the Maniacake Conference in Windsor, Ontario. It's about the undead. You'll love it. It's called "My Girlfriend Is A Zombie."
----------------------------------------------------
So, it's not quite a new music video, but it's basically as cool. Ian went out and made a video to accompany our song Pineapple Piracy. It's quite the epic tale. So, hooray! In other news, we're going to work on more random videos for The Maniacs, so you'll see new stuff up here soon, even if we're not really cranking out any new music. Well, that's all for now!
A lot of the stuff below is ignorable. But the music video is cool you should watch it. Well, the point of this is to let you know that the first official Maniacs release is coming soon... but first, BUY OUR CRAP! We just started up our store. So go there.
This is a new video for our twisted "Cleaning Wizardia" song. Enjoy! (YouTube Quality sucks, though...)
In recent news, CD number 4, Tales from the Toaster of an Undead Sailor, has been completed. We are in the process of making a CD that encompasses a few old songs we wrote but never recorded, stuff that didn't quite fit on old CDs, little odd side thingies, and a few reworked songs. Once this is complete, each of the 5 CDs will be wrapped in a special package. There will only be 6 of these in existence, and they will go to the 7 Sages to be rated. Out of all 100 songs in the collection, the best 20 or so will be chosen. Then the lists of the sages will be combined and we will truly discover what the best Maniacs songs are! After this, we will release the purest form of stupidity. This is the event that all of Maniacism has awaited! The time draws nearer each day!
Are you one of the sages? Does destiny lie in your hands? Are you going to buy the one CD to rule them all when it comes out and we actually sell it? These are the questions you must ponder, for all Maniacism lies in the balance.
The Maniacs have evolved greatly from what they once were. In the beginning, the band was known as "Mike and the Maniacs" composed of young Mike McCrindle and Kyle Dempsey in the living room of Mike's father's house. Back then, the songs were what happened when Mike or Kyle screwed around on the keyboard, drumset, or other assorted instrument. A small percentage of people who couldn't read downloaded some of the bizarre songs from Napster, mistaking them for hits by "Mike and the Mechanics". Mike's father recieved some bizarre comments, and was mainly amused by the whole incident. Eventually, songs were put aside for the grand adventure of the "Mike and Kyle Show", taped on an old-school tape recorder until it broke. Then, the stupidity of Kyle and bizarre humor of Mike split their path.
Years passed, and then 2005 hit the fan. The summer of that year, something amazing happened. One fantabulous day when Mike and best friend Ian Boufford were bored, a phrase spoken by an old friend of Mike's surfaced into the wake of stupidity and music. The video camera that Mike protected with his life began recording. Ian donned a false moustache and a green yarmulke as Mike strapped on his tribal mask, and the two turned on the keyboard. What ensued was freakish and unnatural, but became instantly catchy. When Mike returned to his new home in Michigan, he figured out how to take the audio from the movie and put it onto iTunes. Mike was thrilled, and decided that "Mike and the Maniacs" were to make a revival. Chopping his own name from the title, "You Live With Your Mama" by The Maniacs became a minor classic among the disturbed. It's popularity ensues today, despite the obvious lack of musical talent.
The next amazing thing to take place was the birth of The Maniacs T-Shirts. Mike gathered a whole bunch of money and printed 20 t-shirts. Unfortunately, his scheme of selling them fell flat, and he ended up giving them away to his friends out of kindness. There was a designated "Maniacs T-Shirt Day" Spring 2006, and another in 2007 (which was a failure on the whole). The t-shirts live, and several people wish they had them. Unfortunately, Mike is way too poor to make another line any time soon!
Then, the next miracle happened. Mike was alone and wallowing in his boredom, and discovered the wonders of Garageband. The first song he made was "Groove Button", a magical song that gave the listener the illusion that everything in real life moved to the mystical yet nonsensical notes. It was even more popular than "You Live With Your Mama" and Mike did not let the fun stop there. A chain of beautiful songs followed, and The Maniacs were a disturbing yet entertaining treat. Mike then released "Deus Ex Machina" a 5 song Demo Disk with the working title of "A Tale of Two Groove Buttons".
The tracks were:
1. Groove Button - The Sequel
2. Pay Per View
3. Sam CP
4. Laser Beams of Wrath (System Lord Bob)
5. Groove Button - The Threequel
It was a hit. People bought it, at least. But then, horrible tragedy struck. The original Groove Button, of which there were no back-up copies, was destroyed. Mike frantically worked at re-making the masterpiece, but failed miserably. He tried many times to capture the greatness within Groove Button, but ultimately settled for the orchestrated wordless version, which only barely reached the standards. It was still nothing compared to what the amazing original had been. The wordless version made it onto the first full CD, with nothing better to take it's place.
More hard work ensued over the summer of 2006, recording more tracks with Ian and his sister Kate, both practically family to Mike. Many great ideas emerged, but only few made it onto the CD. Ian had a hand in bizarre percussionary measures, including hitting a baseball bat on a chair and sticking his finger in a fan. After the adventures with Ian and Kate, Mike was satisfied. The resulting tracks intermingled with the Garageband tracks and some other bizarre songs. The end result was grand. "It's Freakalicious!" had been born.
Mike was furious at how a wave of -alicious Ad campaigns and songs came out before he had finished "It's Freakalicious!" and has, according to witness testimony, thrown his shoe at the radio when a Chili's commercial declared it's food was "Spicealicious". Another report says that Mike turned a picture of Fergie into a dartboard after the song "Fergalicious" made it big. Mike eventually got over his wrath at the collective unconscious and moved on to bigger things.
In the summer of 2006, The Maniacs begin combining their two differing styles, and the acoustic began to blend nicely with the electronic. It was still a step in the evolution of the band, but the result of this large step was the fabulous and diverse "Be Square!" which has just recently been completed. On this CD, Mike incorperated the help of friend and guitarist extraordinare Sam Gunnett. With sounds ranging from strange a capella vocal tales about what happens when you eat a Wunderbar while reading Beowulf, screaming rants by angry children who love their cereal, freestyle rap / 70's ballads about getting new computers, and lovely guitar ballads about cheese, "Be Square!" is bound to be a tasty follow-up to "It's Freakalicious!".
Since then, The Maniacs have released 3 more CD's. The Discography goes like this:
1. It's Freakalicious!
2. Be Square!
3. Foursight
4. Tales From Beyond
5. Kinda Sketchy
There is also a best-of collection called Psuedoanachronism. Hooray!
