The Mantra have been around in various forms for 4 years now. These guys make sure to be the stand out energetic band of every show, and consitantly bring added flairs to their live perfomrances. Leigh Bursey as the only original member, Leads the charge with poeticly deep lyrics and a strong Indie Rock influence, pulled from his youth. The addition of Justin Steacy on drums filled out the sound The Mantra was looking for, as well as his new age influnce into the rock scene. The Mantra's newest member, Jeff Gray, on lead guitar rounds out this bands varrying genre with a solid rock edge. You can catch these guys playing charity shows in coffee houses across eastern ontario, or rocking large with such acts as: Hedley, Illscarlet, The Black Maria, The Mission District, and many more! They are currently playing/looking for shows to promote their first STUDIO full length album tittled "Revisiting Gotham".
"The Mantra guys are one of the few bands that are fun on and off the stage, always lending hands and equipment to other bands, and always getting the fans involved. When was the last time you saw a band play a show to 500+ screaming kids and then after the set they come rock out with you to the next band. I'm really impressed by the musicianship and the personalities these young men bring"
Sunday July 27th 2008 – The Cornwall Underground proudly presents Rock the Vote at Prime Time (across from the Sears Parking Garage beside Kastners) in downtown Cornwall Ontario! All Ages/1pm/$2 (please bring exact change) – lots of bands are playing, plus guest speakers, and an acoustic showcase!
Tentative lineup: Fathom Ties, Reunited at Death, A Final Draw, Hail to Thee, A Common Misconception, Till Death Beats Down, The Nads, The Nummies, Sleep is for the Dead, Tomorrows Downfall and possibly a few more bands but the lineup is pretty much filled at this moment. The Acoustic Show Case: The Mantra, Keegan Larose, Jason Ramone, and possibly Sarah Gott, A Regret To Remember, Anna Marie Newton, and Geneviève Lacroix (I am just waiting on a few confirmations).
There will probably be a few changes in the lineup, as is the case with any festival with such a large amount of bands playing, but this gives you a rough idea of who is playing and who might be playing.
If your band would like to be considered for the lineup, and/or possibly a waiting list, please get in touch with Jason at Cornwall Underground.
That is Sunday July 27th 2008 @ Prime Time in Cornwall - All Ages/1pm/$2!
