What happens when people of widely ranging musical interests mash their influences together with literate lyrics.
The Marvel Stove plays original acoustic songs. Leo McKay writes the tunes, plays guitar, banjo, rudimentary piano and sings the lead. Jim Bruce makes the songs sound like music by playing accordion, clarinet, piano, percussion, and by singing harmonies. Angela Dwyer-James is a new addition to the group, adding some double bass and the occasional vocal harmony.
Formed three years ago in the village of Maitland, Hants County, Nova Scotia, the Marvel Stove has headlined at the Marigold Cultural Centre, organized independent multi-act musical shows, provided entertainment for several art shows, and played the Truro fundraiser circuit. Most recently, the band has, through Dry Kindling Productions, opened a major show for banjo-slinging songster Old Man Luedecke.
Songwriter Leo McKay is a teacher by day, but his other avocation is as a fiction writer. He has published a collection of short stories and a novel. His fiction has won several prizes, and his first book was a finalist for the Giller Prize.
Multi-instrumentalist Jim Bruce is a humble herb farmer by day, but in his former musical life he played accordion with Halifax based Polish Folk Dance group Pomorze.
Angela Dwyer James' musical life also includes teaching ukulele, singing in two choirs, and playing various bass gigs whenever she gets the chance. Besides being a Mom she works at a local church in her spare time.

We wanted to stop in and say hi. We have a few updates for you. We have been working on our new album. Our first single off of it is on our myspace page. Hey Leo, Love the tunes. This is my 2nd comment ever in cyberspace (my first was to Jennifer). Anyway, So I'm teaching about the World War I battle Passchendaele, and I keep singing "Breakfast at Zellers" in my head. I'll try not to read too much into that.
