Sounds Like
The Mary Dream has their own unique sound and style, but appeals to fans of Sarah McLachlan, Dido, Fiona Apple, A Fine Frenzy, Anna Nalick, Mazzy Star, The Sundays, Sixpence None The Richer, Natalie Merchant, etc.
Since their fated meeting through a classified ad in a San Francisco newspaper, Blake Ryan and Elise Bellew have been a prolific songwriting team, working meticulously to create their own unique sound and style of vibey alternative pop/rock.
From a profound and moving dream Elise had comes the name The Mary Dream. Elise's distinctive voice and impactful lyrics join together with Blake's tasteful chords and unique guitar layerings to create some of the most moving, yet melodic alternative pop/rock emerging today.
Beautiful World is The Mary Dream's first, official, full-length release on their own label SuperUniverse Records and was recorded almost entirely at home by Blake and Elise, except for the drum tracks, which were recorded by top Nashville session drummer Steve Brewster (Jewel, Faith Hill, etc.). The CD was mixed and mastered by producer Richie Biggs (Switchfoot, Nichole Nordeman, etc.) at The Art House in Nashville.
Beautiful World is a collection of 11 bittersweet and compelling songs that are dreamy and melodic. From the optimistic title track Beautiful World, to the hauntingly beautiful Say My Name, this CD is a must for listeners who are seeking to be moved in a deep and genuine way.
Beautiful World is currently being played on a growing number of independent radio stations throughout the U.S. and internationally. Since it's release, numerous songs from Beautiful World have been used in Film & Television, with prominent placements including "How You Love Me" on ABC's All My Children, "More" on MTV's Real World Denver, and "Stay" on MTV's Real World Hollywood.
The Mary Dream's next record This Kind of Life was recently mixed by 5-time grammy-winning mixer F. Reid Shippen (A Fine Frenzy, Flyleaf, Plumb, Matt Kearney, etc) and will be mastered by senior mastering engineer Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound on October 20th. This Kind of Life includes 11 new songs that take The Mary Dream's sound to a deeper level. Guest musicians include Justin Cary (Sixpence None The Richer), Steve Bowman (Counting Crows), Steve Brewster (Jewel, Faith Hill), Mark Hill (Keith Urban), and David Henry (Vienna Teng). The Mary Dream will be pre-releasing This Kind of Life on myspace in late October with an official release in November!
"The Mary Dream have combined all the best elements of pop with a sentiment that runs deeper. It would be a beautiful world indeed if more musicians followed suit." — Performing Songwriter Magazine
