The Mass is influenced by a great number of music styles. While Sem prefers soft rock, ska and poppunk, Sam and Job are into the more heavy stuff.

The Mass has been compared with AFI and Thrice. The Mass is very honored with this comparison, but hopes that they don't copy music. They are keen on an own sound.
Job and Sem, the Thomas brothers, were both 'between bands' and so they decided to join their forces in a new project. The mass was born. Pure amusement soon became a little more serious and they had the opportunity to do some shows. The mass was growing. For the shows they were in desperate need for a bass player. After one rehearsel with Sam Velghe, Job and Sem were convinced of his value for the band. The Mass has been playing in it's current formation since august 2005.
'Experts' describe the mass as poppunk with a metal edge. The sound is catchy, but The Mass doesn't hesitate to go metal in the bridges.
