Most people view emo as a type of person. Someone who cuts themselves, hates the world, and wears tight clothing. Others view emo as a genre of music including bands such as Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, and Panic! At the Disco. Most people use emo to describe what is really called scene.What does the word emo mean? Most people believe emo is short for emotional, as in an emotional person or emotional music. Others believe it’s short for emotional hardcore. Emo is short for emotive hardcore.Emo cannot mean emotional because then everything would be emo. Everything has emotions- all music, all people. Emo would become an all-encompassing, very vague, word that could be used to describe many things. Screamo, also called skramz, is another genre of music that most people confuse. Screamo is not popular, it is not mainstream, and it is not played on the radio. Just because a band screams, doesn’t mean it is a screamo band.
