In the modern age where everyone is exposed to so many different types of music, its only natural that some genetic hybrids will occur. Puritans and Scenesters be damned. Evolution is our right and our responsibility.
The Meanz have emerged from Toronto's alternative and electronic music scenes. Their sound is breaking new grounds in the Canadian recording industry with a defining minimalist approach to creating a big stadium sound.
The Meanz were founded in 2003 by singer/songwriters Jordyn Auld (Guitar, Vox, Keys) and Grant Thomas a.k.a. GT (Guitar, Vox, Decks & Beat Production) They both draw from a huge array of influences that they as a unit, have weaved together into a fluid and addictive form.
Audiences who appreciate Rock, House, Dub, Ska, Jungle, Industrial, New Wave, and TripHop find each of these elements at work in their live shows. The explosive end result is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
They boil down the qualities in each genre to their core, and try to find similarities with other styles of music, whether it be from Punk into Trance or from Ska into Jungle its in the fusing of these elements that give The Meanz their room to play.
They have been performing in front of live audiences for over a year and released a demo which has gained them radio play in over 4 countries.
Miss you Grant! Do you and Jordyn have any gigs coming up in TO? Would love to come out and hear you...we really need to hook up for some pints soon old chap! Cheers for now, sending peace to you both!
