J. and Sonya had known each other for a while, when they decided to join forces and write tunes of their own. For a two piece, naturally there were limitations, but it was those limitations that created the unusual concept of a band consisting of two bass players, and computer programming.
Enter Ryan.
The Medicated needed to get their sounds out of the studio and into the faces of a live audience. With his ability to create dirty synth lines, atmosphere and noise on a live scale, they were on their way to their first sold out performance in August 2006.
With live drummers rotating within the first twelve months, The Medicated became a three piece again, and asked for Penny to join the madness that was The Medicated.
And with her vocals she also brought more synthesiser talent.

So as a natural progression, J. took on the role as frontman, and also picked up some more live synths (cause clearly two isn't enough right?!). This in turn had Sonya somehow incorporate the sounds of two basses into one and take on all the bottom end responsibilities.

The title of The Medicated’s debut 6 track EP was released in September 2007.
Enter Paul.
After struggling to keep a live hitting machine on the same wavelength, along comes Paul with years of live experience and talent up his sleeve. He was a perfect fit and performed his first show with the band in November 2007.
2008
The Medicated started off '08 supporting U.S. electronic punksters Mindless Self Indulgence, played amongst local electro artists such as The E.L.F., Toydeath, Lovers Electric, Emergency! Emergency!, Call the Medic Call the Nurse and The Minority. Mid-year out popped their debut album 'Dance! Dance! Romance!', and finished the year, supporting Canadian dark electro outfit The Birthday Massacre, sadly saying goodbye to Penny as they morph back into a 4 piece.
2009
The band has already started demo-ing for their next independant release, and have been in discussions with some amazing producers to delve into the world of The Medicated to help shape and ultimately deliver their untitled sonic newborn to the world.
Yo The Medicatedasaurus. I just found out that we're related...and as a special family only present we've made a new song for you called "End of Days" (start doing backflips now). It's an epic instrumental opus to the moment when our ancient Dino relatives saw a large fiery object plummeting towards them. The Surgical Sideshow Epic opens Thursday, next week, at the PACT Theatre in Erskineville.
The product of the fevered imaginations contained within those entities known as Bonedaddy and Black Paul makes its debut.
Imagine a live theatrical production attempting to blend a cartoon version of the 1932 film "Metropolis" with a pantomime version of "Night of the Living Dead". Imagine that this same theatrical production stars two giant skeletons as rival surgeons.
