Founded in 1990 by Carlos Santos, The Melancholic Youth Of Jesus (mYoj) soon became a reference amongst the Indie scene in Europe. After Carlos Santos' family moved to Portugal, a 15 year old Carlos, began working on several tracks that later would be released as "Hall Of Noises" (92), a Mini-LP that would trigger the curiosity of both Indie music fans and media. This led to Carlos forming The Melancholic Youth Of Jesus and set the rules of what would become the band's musical print. "Hall Of Noises" combined the Phil Spector wall of sound with the dreamy vocals of Leonard Cohen, and the sexy rebelion of The Velvet Underground, all of which pertained to the family music collection for generations and had sparked an enormous passion in Carlos for the old, rare and vintage classics. However the band's fait would meet a twist as the Portuguese press considered The Melancholic Youth Of Jesus as sound-alikes of bands like Bauhaus, Joy Division, and The Jesus And Mary Chain, bands in vogue within the Portuguese alternative scene, and unwittingly triggered the curiosity of a devoted fan base the band never expected to reach and thus created a "cult" around The Melancholic Youth Of Jesus (mYoj). The impact was so astounding that the band were suddenly on several TV shows, and with no suprise, were considered by the press as one of the most promising acts of that year. "Lowveld" (94) Mini-LP followed, and soon mYoj found themselves on a 10 month tour, which included appearances on several of the most important festivals and events taking place, and mYoj were suddenly sharing the stage with many important names within the Portuguese music scene. With a renewed character, mYoj were offered an improved budget by their label, and began working on their next release which would result in "Wanderlust" EP (98) and "One Life Ain't Enough" LP (99). The following years were shadowed by uncertainy, thus, the following tour was cut short, and Carlos Santos decided to take a break, moving to France, Ireland, Guernsey, in the British Channel Isles and later England. In 2004, and now living in Bristol, Carlos decided to release "A Cure 4 A Contemporary Dis-e's", a compilation of several unreleased tracks, and some more notorious tracks, at the band's former label's request, and released in conjunction with Carlos' newly created label mYOGENIc. mYoj performed several shows in the UK and Europe, from 2005/2007, and in that period, Carlos began working on a new band, Sabotage UK, with whom he played live until 2010, having returned then to mYoj to start working on new material with renewed force. In 2011, Carlos returned to Portugal and reformed mYoj, and during that period performed several shows and began working on new material which sparked the curiosity of several labels, having eventually decided to sign for Ethereal Sound Works, and in conjunction with their new label are preparing new releases for 2012 - "Theme For Ambition" (Single) - which is already on its 2nd Issue and "Gush" (LP) is expected soon.
