The Mercantillers are a seasoned New York City band that performs an upbeat and exciting blend of traditional and original sea-chanteys, bluegrass, folk music and rock-n-roll. The band started playing together full-time after their first impromptu performance at the Lower East Side's famed Collective Unconscious Theater. The group has been bringing their reelin' and rockin' sets of their original tunes, familiar folk songs, and sing-along chanteys to audiences throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island and as far as Cape Cod.
The band boasts a multi-talented group of local musicians, writers and performers. The Mercantillers' broad instrumentation ranges from traditional guitars, banjo, mandolin and bass, to the not-so-traditional drum kit, trombone, tubular bells, melodica, churango, and the occasional theremin. The Mercantillers' self titled first CD was meet with much success, and sold out within a year of its release, and the group's second release "Cape Cod Bound" received great attention and applause. The group is currently preparing to record their third record.
