THE BOOSH “BACK IN THE USSA”
The Mighty Boosh had such an outrageous time this summer in the USA, they are contemplating returning soon for an extended performance tour. Don't miss a chance to DEMAND them in your hometown.
Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding (Writers and Performers)
Howard Moon and Vince Noir were first brought to life by Julian and Noel in the upstairs room of a North London pub back in the late ‘90’s. They made their Edinburgh Festival debut in 1998 in The Mighty Boosh, winning the coveted Perrier Award for Best Newcomer. Further Edinburgh live shows followed with the Perrier Award nominated Arctic Boosh (1999) and Auto Boosh (2000) which, following a sell out run at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival, won the Festival’s prestigious Barry Humphries Award.
In 2001 Julian and Noel were commissioned by the BBC to write and star in The Boosh, a six part comedy series for Radio 4 based upon the adventures of Vince and Howard. The series went on to win The Douglas Adams Award for innovative comedy writing. Having seen and loved their Edinburgh shows, Steve Coogan and Henry Normal then set about securing the Boosh’s first TV commission. In 2004 Baby Cow produced the first series of The Mighty Boosh, which aired on BBC THREE in May of that year moving to BBC2 in the November. Bringing the magical exploits of Vince and Howard into the living rooms of everyday folk, the series was nominated for Best Comedy Newcomer at the 2004 British Comedy Awards and was instantly re-commissioned by the BBC for a second series.
Series two of The Mighty Boosh, which debuted on BBC THREE in July 2005, was repeated on BBC2 in January 2006 to coincide with the duo’s first nationwide live tour of the UK. Due to overwhelming public demand, the tour doubled in size, with the boys performing to some 100,000 punters. The Sunday Telegraph’s Paul Morley described the show as, “the funniest thing you will see this year on stage, television or film,” with The Observer’s Stephanie Merritt calling it, “A triumphant spectacle… One of the most joyful shows around.” The tour culminated in a sell-out 5 night run at London’s premiere rock venue, Brixton Academy, where the live show was recorded for the first ever Mighty Boosh Live DVD, released in November 2006.
In autumn 2006, The Mighty Boosh performed at the prestigious Secret Policeman’s Ball at the Royal Albert Hall, a show which was subsequently aired on C4. This was followed in 2007 with the eagerly-awaited third series of The Mighty Boosh, which on BBC THREE. This series went on to become their most successful yet, regularly attracting 1 million viewers and winning the RTS Award for Best Situation Comedy and Comedy Drama.
In 2008, they embarked on a huge tour of the UK, playing to sellout crowds at venues including Wembley Arena an 02 Arena.
Julian and Noel’s additional credits include Nathan Barley, The IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, Surrealissimo: The Trial of Salvador Dali, How Not To Live Your Life and the BAFTA nominated short film, Sweet.
In addition Julian has appeared in the films Lucky Break, The Principles of Lust and the short How to Tell a Relationship is Over, which won the audience award at the Montreal Comedy Festival.
Noel has appeared on The Big Fat Quiz of the Year and the long running music show, Nevermind the Buzzcocks. Noel was also nominated for the Perrier Award for his 2002 solo Edinburgh show, Voodoo Hedgehog.
Additional cast on the tour include Michael Fielding as Naboo, Rich Fulcher as Bob Fossil and Dave Brown as Bollo.
