It's kind of a strange story. There's been The Mike Petrone Trio for twenty-five years. My Dad was a jazz pianist and I followed in his footsteps playing instrumental straight-ahead piano, bass, and drums jazz. It's how I've made my living for a quarter century. I started recording CD's as The Mike Petrone Trio in 1994 and have had a lot of fun and some real success. This year I started writing songs for the trio which is very different for me and this new album Mediterranean Jazz is the result. We're always playing in and around Cleveland but now we're doing this new stuff too. It also helped that I reconnected with drummer Ricky Exton who really inspires me and my crazy favorite bass maniac, Ed Stephens. Ed was in the trio with me from 1999 to 2002 and then started up again with me this year. He also plays in a metal band called Abdullah. He plays mean classical too.
