A blend of updated roots, rock and country, Knick Knackerson & the Minglers are a Winnipeg based music outfit with a constantly changing line-up. Easily drifting through many different styles of music, the Minglers new brand of alt country can only be described as eclectic. The Minglers anything goes attitude to music features bold instrumentation and teeters unpredictably between the genres of contemporary and old timey.
The Minglers front man Knick Knackerson, aka James Culleton, uses his chameleon-like vocal abilities to lead his audiences on an informational and somewhat bio-geographical journey. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1974, and the son of an Anglophone father and a francophone mother, Knackerson writes music in both French and English. His vocals have been compared to a cross between the Talking Heads and Elvis Presley. Knick Knackerson’s first brush with performing music was caught on video during a replaying of the Elvis 68’ comeback special where the 3 year old Knackerson is seen emulating the King. After a long exposure to country music, Knackerson picked up the guitar at 18. A self taught musician, he has been playing and writing music with a guitar for the past 15 years. Recently he has picked up the muck bucket bass (a two string homemade bass), the kazoo, and the cigar box guitar. Knackerson has also been a member of the Winnipeg bands the Godkings, Mogus, The New Eastman Stringbusters and the Montreal bands The Archaic Music Experience, The Delroys and The Royal Mountain Ramblers.
As their name suggests, the Minglers have had many line-ups since their formation in the late nineties. Some of the members have included Grant Siemens (Corb Lund Band), Paul Yee(Doc Walker), Joanna Miller & Scott Nolan(Scott Nolan Band), Andre Clemente(Home Cooked Meals), Skye Onasson(The New Meanies), Benoit Morier (Benwah), Matt Monsoon (and his Riffriders), Kathryn Yee(Que Why), and Damon Mitchell (Nathan, The New Meanies), Andrina Turenne(Chic Gamine, Madrigaia).
After the successes of their debut live album in 2001 and their album titled “Brokenhead” in 2003, the Minglers long awaited third album is set be completed in 2008.
