Sean and I set started working together musically in the summer of 2003. At that time we called ourselves the Rabid Mongooses. We continued on as the RM for a couple years and then through different band members coming and going and different issues; Sean and I set out just as a duo. Though now our close friend Colton Jensen has come to join our merry band this summer.
We have just recently played at Zimmy's Bob Dylan Days Singer/Songwriter Contest, where we got great crowd feedback. The goal of the summer is to write more and land a few gigs, possibly at Zimmy's. Zimmy's, btw, is THE bar in Hibbing and our hangout place after hours.
We are the Minstrel Boys, a folk rock group. Though we would rather not be labeled as any genre. We play what comes to us through inspiration and what we find entertaining to ourselves.
The name Minstrel Boys comes from the irish song of the rebellion, "The Minstrel Boy". The song is our rallying motivation song before and after anytime we play.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The minstrel boy to the war is gone,
In the ranks of death you'll find him;
His father's sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung behind him;
"Land of Song!" cried the warrior bard,
(Should) "Tho' all the world betrays thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee!"
The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's steel
Could not bring that proud soul under;
The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again,
For he tore its chords asunder;
And said "No chains shall sully thee,
Thou soul of love and brav'ry!
Thy songs were made for the pure and free
They shall never sound in slavery!
The Irish outlaw Reilly Ramones is not rambling along rainy green Irish valleys. This time he troubles the spotless under the hot Mexican sun and drowns Mariachi trumpets in Guinness. Come and listen to the fine crossover of traditional irish tunes, Rock'n Roll and Hip Hop on the new album "Kind Of Green". www. myspace. com/insearchofarose or www. insearchofarose. de
