   Lower Merion Township's Blurbs
About me:
"Lower Merion Township was first settled in 1682 by Welsh Quakers who were granted a tract of land by William Penn. In 1713, Lower Merion was established as an independent Township with about 52 landholders and tenants. In 1900, the Township was incorporated as a Township of the First Class...

...Located in the heart of the "Main Line," the Township is a first ring suburban community bordering the City of Philadelphia. The community is served by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) as well as Amtrak passenger service. The nearest major airport, Philadelphia International, is about 30 minutes by car, and can be accessed by SEPTA. Lower Merion is the largest of the 62 municipalities located within Montgomery County. According to the 1990 census, the Township population is 58,003, with 23,868 households located within its 23.64 square miles. The Township has a median housing value of $282,600 and a median family income of $84,378, the highest in the County."

When she lists real estate, Lower Merion clearly forgets to mention some things. The unreadable cast-iron street signs. The desperately upwardly mobile Reform Jews. Their SUVs. The lack of indoor smoking. Lower Merion compensates by being very rich, but not so very rich as it once was. Living in Lower Merion means never having to even realize that there is an Upper Merion (because the houses are sooo small there). She has an outpost of Christie's within walking distance of the R5. And roads which, while dark and twisty, are fuckin fun to drive on late at night if you've got good headlights and traction. Being drunk helps lubricate this and other circumstances there. I miss you, Lower Merion, but not enough to go back.
