There's rock and then there's Modern Legion: the new, young Australian rock band set to take the world by storm.
Formed in the summer of 2007 from the ashes of some notable local bands, the band - Steph Collis (vocals), Matt Wilkinson (guitar), Adrian Santospirito (guitar/keys), Seb Von Brown (bass), Johnny Rollins (drums) - have already done some work in the States and are ready to hit the road in Australia.
Though none of Modern Legion is older than 23, all are veterans on the Australian rock circuit. Steph's Geelong band The Whiteroom, signed to Roadrunner at age 16, had a hit with the song "Enemies Closer" in 2006 and toured arenas with Nickelback; Matt Wilkinson, and Adrian Santospirito's Geelong band The Jades made the acclaimed EP "New Wave Chocolate" that garnered extensive radio play in the UK and Australia. Johnny Rollins drummed with successful melbourne band Sons of the Sun . Between them they've toured with some of Australia's biggest names.
Matt and Steph became friends when their bands were booked on the same bill in a small rural Australian town in 2000. In 2007, when Whiteroom called it quits, Matt asked her to write songs with him. With "a bit of persuasion", Matt talked Steph into abandoning drums to be the lead singer, and in the summer of 2007, they headed to the States to work on demos and find the sound they were looking for. The results...? It's likened to being kicked in the ear by an atari and then pummeled by its orchestra buddies!!
The Modern Legion will be touring and recording through out 2008!! Come rock with us !
