Formed in 2007, the band's music is melodic, catchy, lively and memorable, raucous at times, tender and soulful at others.
The band won the Evening Chronicle 'Battle of the Bands' competition in 2008 with an avalanche of votes and continue to win new fans, playing such venues as the O2 Academy, The Cumberland Arms, The Quay in Blyth, Gateshead Stadium, The Biltmore in York and various music festivals and events around the country.
The Mojitos recorded their first EP, 'Tuneage', in June 2008 and have just finished recording a new EP, 'Revolution of the Brain' at 1st Avenue Studios.
Fronting the band with melodies vocal and guitar we have Mr Alan Elliott, a singer/songwriter with a penchant for movie props and catchy hooks. With influences from The Beatles, Buddy Holly and good old rock and roll he has assembled a style which is definitely more than the sum of its parts, adding his own rock edge to deliver compelling and memorable stories. According to legend, Al has never played a bum note.
On prominent second vocal we have the lovely Georgia Brenda whose wailing and edgy vocals give the band a seriously potent kick in the upper registers. Lifting the top end of the band's trademark multipart harmonies is no mean feat and Georgia solidly delivers with every single syllable.While singing at a competition in Newcastle, Georgia garnered a healthy collection of votes from the audience, many of whom were attending a Bon Jovi concert in Leeds at the time.
On second guitar we find Mr Sam Hayward. Sam definitely delivers the rock ingredient with his clear, raucous and psychedelic solos. Just as important, however, is his ability to pad out the sound of the band, pushing the grooves with an accurate, riff-based sound. The word on the grapevine is that his left hand knows no fear.
Bass guitar is the residence of Mr Mark Smith. A player with his mind firmly in the groove, Mark places the emphasis on solidifying the rhythm of the band with a mixture of pushy rock oriented simplicity and an occasional wander off the beaten track. It has been said that Mark once ate his own weight in fried chicken.
On drums, the backbone of The Mojitos, we find Mr Kevin Adamson. With influences so diverse as to warp the mind of a lesser human, Kevin lays down a solid, varied and sometimes exhausting performance, driving home a relentless backbeat in one song, delivering funksome complexity in the next. It has been alleged that Kevin once beat the devil fair and square at paper, scissors, stone in 42 consecutive games.
Together, they form The Mojitos, a band which, according to the word on the street, will tie the recession's shoe laces together and set off its fire alarm.
