The Monas are best known for their top ten hit singles "Cae la Noche" and "Tu" on Latin Alternative Charts. The Monas follow an old tradition of playing straight Rock and Roll for generations past and present. Felipe (vocals/guitar), Juan (drums), Nando (guitar) and Francisco (bass) hail from Barranquilla, Colombia and live in Miami, FL.
The Monas was signed to Watts Up! Records by legendary Colombian A&R/Producer Dennis Murcia (Shakira, Los De Adentro, Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz). “After hearing the quality of the songwriting and musicianship, I signed them on the spot” said Dennis, “The Monas are the real thing, write their songs effortlessly in Spanish and English, and perform great live. The complete package, and in an age of computer artists, it is very exciting to be able to work with career artists like The Monas”.
The Monas self titled debut album is available in the US under the WATTSUP! record label, and has been simultaneously released in Colombia and South America under Codiscos.
THE MONAS won the 2006 Billboard Latin Conference New Artists Showcase, were invited to perform at the Latin Grammy Street party in Los Angeles on October 22nd, 2006 and were the first Rock Band from Colombia to perform at the famed SXSW Festival in Autin, TX in April 2007. Rolling Stone magazine Latin American edition gave THE MONAS ***1/2 stars.
The band in currently recording their sophomore album and is expected to be released in the fall of 2008.
