About me:

Welcome!
TMND is a horror magazine, showcasing the dark fiction of established and upcoming writers. Here you will find tales of suspense, fear, and the downright insane. We cater to writers who might be described as...
different, weird, disturbed...

To visit the official site, please go to:

Questions? Contact me any time at MonsterEditor@yahoo.com, or message me here on MySpace!

Who I'd like to meet:
Fans and authors of dark fiction!
Also... art is always welcome. Eye candy is a great thing!
Take cemetery photos? Send them in! Do you write dark, gruesome poetry? Send it in!

The Monsters Next Door is open to submissions! As of September 15th (Issue Eight) this publication is switching formats. No more online issues. The Monsters Next Door will be a free, downloadable PDF with the option to purchase a print copy.

Frequently asked questions:

Is The Monsters Next Door a paying market?

Let me start by saying that all contributors to For The Love Of Monsters and Scattered Verses Moonlit Curses received free contributor copies. The Devil's Food is paying $25, plus a free copy to each author involved. From time to time, TMND holds writing contests with cash and/or book prizes. THEMED issues of the magazine will offer contrib copies. All that being said... the simple answer is no, at this point in time The Monsters Next Door Magazine cannot afford to pay the writers featured in the regular magazine issues. Long story short: I do what I can, when I can... but unless things change and I start to turn a legitimate profit, I cannot afford to provide monetary compensation or free copies of the magazine. However, cut-rate copies will be available to the contributors. In addition, once or twice a year writers will have the opportunity to write on a theme and submit to our themed issue for a chance at a free copy. And... if you'd like to see The Monsters Next Door turn enough profit to become a paying market, buy a copy! Tell your friends and family to buy one too! The first print issue will be available on September 15th.

How often is The Monsters Next Door published?

Regular issues are published quarterly (4 times a year), and in ADDITION to the regular issues, there will be 1-2 themed issues per year. The themed issues are sure to be fun, as they may require writers to come up with new and inventive ideas!

Upcoming issues:

Issue Eight - September 15th

Issue Nine *themed issue!!* - Road Trips - November 15th

Issue Ten - December 15th

Issue Eleven - March 15th

PLEASE NOTE BEFORE SUBMITTING:

Your submission should be sent to one of TWO EMAIL ADDRESSES, depending on word count.

Short Fiction
500 - 3000 words. Please send as an attached .rtf or .doc file to: tmndshorts@yahoo.com c/o Myrrym Davies

Long Fiction
3000 - 7500 words. Please send as an attached .rtf or .doc file to: MonsterEditor@yahoo.com c/o LB Goddard

Your story must adhere to the following guidelines:

*Your story must feature a character or situation that could be described as "monstrous". We don't require claws or fangs. Serial killers are human beings, but wouldn't you agree they are monsters?

*Classic characters welcome (vampires, demons, ghosts, werewolves, ghouls, zombies) but please make the plot original! We all know that the classic vampire hates crucifixes and feeds daily. Make yours different!

*Word length: 500 - 7500 words. Please no more than 7500 words!

*Use standard fonts--Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New-- 11 or 12 point. Standard manuscript format is preferred--double spaced, no spaces between paragraphs, indent at paragraph beginning, underline italics.

Simultaneous submissions are fine. Just let me know if your story gets accepted somewhere else.

Reprints: NO

Multiple submissions are OK for poetry, but please only send ONE STORY at a time. You can try again if it is rejected.

Payment: The Monsters Next Door cannot afford to pay contributors at this time. However, your story may be considered for the annual print anthology, in which case a free contributors copy will be received.

Rights: The Monsters Next Door claims First North American rights for fiction and one-time rights for poetry and artwork.

500 - 3000 words. Please send as an attached .rtf or .doc file to: tmndshorts@yahoo.com c/o Myrrym Davies

3000 - 7500 words. Please send as an attached .rtf or .doc file to: MonsterEditor@yahoo.com c/o LB Goddard

Artists: I cannot pay for contributions, but I can help gain interest in your work. With any art submission, I would be happy to provide a bio and website address. Have more than one website you want advertised? No problem! Send me the addresses and I'll include them all!

If you have photos with a dark element you wish to submit, I would be pleased to append the proper copyright symbol and name (tastefully small, but there none-the-less). Bio and website addresses will be included with photos.

Send up to four poems at a time, any length. Please no love poems or bleeding hearts... unless the bleeding is quite literal.

How Do I Live

How do I live
With these memories of mine
How do I live
When I'm flawed by design

How do I live
With this pain that I feel
How do I live
When I'm unable to deal

How can I live
With darkness all around
How can I live
When I'm always on the ground

How do I live
With sorrow all the time
How can I live
When I just can't rhyme

How do I live
With thoughts of self-harm
How do I live
When life's lost its charm

How do I live

"Some writers one admirers and others make one want to do as they do, or try. For me, Joe Pulver is of the latter type. His imagination is so vile so much of the time that it makes me giggle with amazement. And the prose so deadly visionary. I'm grateful that the pieces in this collection are those of a fellow horror writer who has raised the ante on what it means to be such a creature." - Thomas Ligotti
