Frequently asked questions:
Is The Monsters Next Door a paying market?
Let me start by saying that all contributors to For The Love Of Monsters and Scattered Verses Moonlit Curses received free contributor copies. The Devil's Food is paying $25, plus a free copy to each author involved. From time to time, TMND holds writing contests with cash and/or book prizes. THEMED issues of the magazine will offer contrib copies. All that being said... the simple answer is no, at this point in time The Monsters Next Door Magazine cannot afford to pay the writers featured in the regular magazine issues. Long story short: I do what I can, when I can... but unless things change and I start to turn a legitimate profit, I cannot afford to provide monetary compensation or free copies of the magazine. However, cut-rate copies will be available to the contributors. In addition, once or twice a year writers will have the opportunity to write on a theme and submit to our themed issue for a chance at a free copy. And... if you'd like to see The Monsters Next Door turn enough profit to become a paying market, buy a copy! Tell your friends and family to buy one too! The first print issue will be available on September 15th.
How often is The Monsters Next Door published?
Regular issues are published quarterly (4 times a year), and in ADDITION to the regular issues, there will be 1-2 themed issues per year. The themed issues are sure to be fun, as they may require writers to come up with new and inventive ideas!
Upcoming issues:
Issue Eight - September 15th
Issue Nine *themed issue!!* - Road Trips - November 1st
Issue Ten - December 15th
Issue Eleven - March 15th

Long Fiction

Your story must adhere to the following guidelines:
*Your story must feature a character or situation that could be described as "monstrous". We don't require claws or fangs. Serial killers are human beings, but wouldn't you agree they are monsters?

*Use standard fonts--Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New-- 11 or 12 point. Standard manuscript format is preferred--double spaced, no spaces between paragraphs, indent at paragraph beginning, underline italics.
Simultaneous submissions are fine. Just let me know if your story gets accepted somewhere else.

Multiple submissions are OK for poetry, but please only send ONE STORY at a time. You can try again if it is rejected.
Payment: The Monsters Next Door cannot afford to pay contributors at this time. However, your story may be considered for the annual print anthology, in which case a free contributors copy will be received.

Artists: I cannot pay for contributions, but I can help gain interest in your work. With any art submission, I would be happy to provide a bio and website address. Have more than one website you want advertised? No problem! Send me the addresses and I'll include them all!
If you have photos with a dark element you wish to submit, I would be pleased to append the proper copyright symbol and name (tastefully small, but there none-the-less). Bio and website addresses will be included with photos.
Send up to four poems at a time, any length. Please no love poems or bleeding hearts... unless the bleeding is quite literal. MonsterEditor@yahoo.com
Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my 2nd horror no3vel SACRIFICE is now in stores everywhere, including Amazon.com! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride! Here are a couple reviews it's gotten so far:
“SACRIFICE is a full frontal assault on your senses. It is a dark, brutal, bloody and terribly frightening book. Everson went deep into some dark abyss to bring this book to the light of day.... I highly recommend SACRIFICE.” —Famous Monsters of Filmland
“John Everson manages in SACRIFICE to dispense buckets of blood, provide edgy perversity, and walk the tenuous tightrope of horror and sex without falling: It’s rather an amazing feat.” –Hell Notes
