Moodring is centered around Rollerball's Monte Allen and Mae Starr. While it’s easy to hear that Moodring is awesome, other words to describe them are a bit harder to come by. The presence of piano and clarinet give a free post-jazz flavor. Mae Starr’s ghostly vocals sound like the lounge music on a sinking ship. The deep groove jams sink in to form some kind of modern American gamelan sound. The music is so raw and infectious and immediate that it feels more proto-everything than post-anything. So just soak it in and sink into the doom.
Wonderful!! ieieieie!! today we open the door and we find this precious jewel split with you Moodrig! The music is awesome, we really hope to meet each other and make some real live recordings together and have a nice talking , dinner, walking!!! we are all light!!!
Luke Lukas is back with an album full of that gleeful gloom that made us love him at first sight. His trustworthy 4-tracks and him go their separate ways so he's now presenting 12 perfectly arranged folk songs to us. Luke reveals himself as a kind soul, but like the western movies taught us, a dreadful killer always hides under every placid looking Texan.
"Leaving his strongly lo-fi sound that impressed us the first time, he treasures the recipe, packing in this new plain, delightful work a caring love for vocals, which are worthy of Neutral Milk hotel, with a touch of Chordettes feel."Daniele Dileo - Lab Magazine
Been listening to the new album. Yea, I love it. My neighbors do too, I think. They started yelling so I turned it up LOUD and they left right away to go buy their own copy. Nice. Makin' sells.
