the mourning sons are a four piece band from Melbourne that can only be described as a swaggering, foot stomping rock'n'roll experience.
Playing around Melbourne, regional Victoria and interstate throughout 2009, the mourning sons have continued creating and shaping a sound that is truly their own. With a live show built on spontaneity and raw energy, the mourning sons are an experienced band to be taken seriously, and with a killer live sound to back it up.
the mourning sons spent early 2009 finalising their self-funded debut album 'pipedreams', set to be released in summer 2009/2010.
'pipedreams' was produced by Dean 'dirt' Turner (violent soho, the red sun band) from Australian rock band Magic Dirt, engineered and mixed by Brent Punshon (the nation blue, sons of the sun) at Head Gap Studios in Melbourne and mastered by Jason Ward (the arcade fire) at Chicago Mastering Service. 'pipedreams' was a labour of love bashed out in 14, twelve-hour days, with the majority of songs put to tape as live, one take recordings, showcasing the honest raw energy the mourning sons bring to every single show.
Local, regional, state, national and World domination united front for summer....lets take em coastal, country, city and on the road! loose part tours! YEW!
Hey guys, apologies for not getting a comment to you for a while - been flat-out men. Just droping by to say that I hope you all had a great weekend and that you have an even greater week ahead, much respect and love, Michael. Cheers for your music and work, I for one, do truly appreciate it. Problem with being an "artist" is that you never get a sfuckin' chance to catch up with others!!, lol. Cheers fellas and keep on keeping it real! All the finest and more, Michael.
Hey Mourning Sons, thanks for hooking up with the Powder Monkeys {Tim Hemensley tribute page} Good luck with finishing your L.P, was very sad news about Dean, he was always such a great laugh and I thought the real soul in Magic Dirt. Though I hadn't seen him for a few years, it really hurt like a bitch when I heard the news. I hope it doesn't delay the L.P too much. Let me know when your playing in St Kilda next!! cheers and beers, John Nolan
