During the 80’s, Donna Moxness was a founding member of the Warsaw Falcons, and Jim Lawson was playing around Cincinnati with No Brakes, and the Last Minute Blues Band. They ended up in the same band in 1990. In 1991 they got married and started a family. Jim kept a hand in the local music scene, playing drums with Ed Cunningham's Prospect Hill, and upright bass in the City Hall Renaissance Orchestra, and a contradance band. In 2003 Jim and Donna put together The Moxie Band, with Larry Bloomfield on harmonica, Gus Thierry on drums, Mike Barrett on bass, Jim on guitar, and Donna on vocals.
Repertoire is rooted in the blues, with some jazz and funk influence, and includes originals by local favorites Roger Yeardley, Patrick Ewing, and Ed Cunningham.
