Robert Bobby was born in Philadelphia and grew up in the suburb of Newtown Square. As a young teenager, his brother introduced him to the music of Bob Dylan and that was his doorway into his own musical adventure. In high school he often frequented The Main Point folk club, getting to hear people like Dave Van Ronk, Chris Smither, Tom Rush, Tim Buckley, Steve Goodman, Muddy Waters and many more.
After attending college at Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, PA, Robert Bobby formed a rock and rhythm & blues band named The Speedboys which gained a widespread regional following. They released two (2) self produced albums which were critically acclaimed in publications like Rolling Stone, Musician Magazine, The Village Voice, The Los Angeles Herald-Examiner & Philadelphia Inquirer.
Over the last several years, Robert Bobby has released his cd’s F*U*B*A*R and S*N*A*F*U, TODAY! , & MEET ROBERT BOBBY which have been getting air play on folk radio shows throughout the USA, Canada, Europe, New Zealand & Australia.
Robert Bobby has performed at the Tin Angel, The Whitaker Center, Steel City Coffeehouse, the emerging artist showcase at Falcon Ridge Festival and for the Susquehanna Folk Music Society. He has opened for Chris Smither, Ernie Hawkins, Fred Eaglesmith and Roy Book Binder in the last few years.
Currently, Robert Bobby performs as a duo with Mrs Bobby on bass. As needed we add a third member, presently Jeff Geib on banjo.
