The Musick Cabinet is a group of semi-pro/am musicians based in Kent and Sussex, England.
Formed in 2007 to encompass already existing activities, it incorporates The Canterbury Waits and The early Flute Consort founded in 1970 and 1996.
The tracks on this page are: Baxella un tratto (anon Italian 16th century) played by the Canterbury Waits on Schrierpfiefe and three shawms. L'arboscello Ballo Furlano (Mainerio, 16th century) played by the Canterbury Waits on four crumhorns (SATB).
Music played is from a wide range - Mediaeval dances, Renaissance band to Baroque and classical small ensembles. Membership is flexible, matching the repertoire to be played to the talents and interests of individual performers. We meet to play socially but like to share our discoveries of unusual pieces and instrumentation to a wider public by means of concerts and talks. We contribute regularly to events such as mediaeval banquets, fayres and stately home open days.
We employ a large battery of instruments including (takes deep breath): crumhorns, shawms, curtals, rauschpfiefen, sackbut, cornet, lysard, serpent, bagpipes, pibgryn, conrnamuse, kortholt, bassanelli, psaltery, harp, rote, viol, rebec, spinet, organ, pipe & tabor, string drum, nakkers, timbrel, recorders (renaissance & baroque), flutes(renaissance, baroque, classical and modern Boehm - both vintage wooden and silver), baroque bassoon, french system bassoon. The Early flute Consort is, to the best of our knowledge, the only 6 part renaissance flute group in the UK ( world?). There's a challenge.

Thank you so much for adding us! Although we bill ourselves as "original folkgrass," we love many genres and have performed (with inauthentic instruments and probably not completely authentic songs) at our tiny local RenFaire for several years. We look forward to hearing more of your excellently reproduced ancient music. Somebody who knows how to play the shawm! Far out! :)
Archaeologically yours, The Parsley & Sagebrush Band
Hi The Musck Cabinet. Thanks for the add. This ensemble of wind sounds nicely, I am glad to have found this space in the net. Health and successes with your music. Alberto Jambrina, Zamora (Spain).
