Influences
I'm one of those strange ones who doesn't sound like his influences. My cousin thinks I must be a Stereophonics fan, and a Stereo MCs fan. I do like the Flaming Lips, but I'd have to say my biggest influences are as follows:
Dad, The Beatles (I actually know musicians who love the Beatles but are too scared to list them as a favourite because they are afraid they won't look cool. You know who you are), The Smiths, Tom Glenne, The Violent Femmes, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Led Zeppelin, Beethoven, ABBA, Nirvana (ever see those four names in a row?), Radiohead, Kat Goldman, The Cure, Desmond Decker, Half Full, Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Blur, Guided by Voices....Add to that everything I've ever heard, whether I liked it or not. It influenced me.
Great current bands: Jerry Leger and the Situations, The Killers, The White Stripes, Metric...
Sounds Like
Your favourite band if all of the members were replaced by me and I played my songs. The sound is antislick and quirky, simultaneously serious and funny, and folk punk, in a Jonathan Richman or Violent Femmes kind of way. My cousin says I sound like the Stereo MCs, but I don't really know what they sound like. I've also been told I sound like Beck and The White Stripes join Simon and Garfunkel and they all move to Canada, but the girl who said that was trying pretty hard.
Jeff is a songwriter, arranger, producer, vocalist, guitarist, and bassist. His new albums,"The Underdog's Guide to Love, Rejection, and Uprisings", "One of a Trilogy", "Life, Death, Love, Hate, Hope, and Bad Apartments", and "Three of a Trilogy", join his first album, "I'm Not" in his discography.
Jeff has toured Canada, playing shows in the Northwest Territories and eight of ten provinces. He has performed live on television in Edmonton (Wired, A-Channel), live and live-to-tape on radio stations such as CIUT Toronto, CKDU Halifax, CJSR Edmonton, CHUO Ottawa, and he went top-10 on CKLU Sudbury's chart. He played a few shows in London, England in 2005, and still can't believe he played the Cavern Club in Liverpool. Six different Toronto acts have covered five of Jeff’s songs in live performances; and one of these artists recorded a song of his. He is a regular performer at the Free Times Cafe and also the Renaissance Cafe in Toronto, and has also written for and performed in musical theatre (Lost Carnival's "Death's Diner", "Waterworks" and "War - The Musical").

Hey Geoff. The old crew are still knocking around, but the Progress bar is now long gone in a management change over.
There's now a new home near Marylebone, so still central.
Hope to catch up when I'm over in Feb.
Alastair xx
Thank you so very much for having me out last night. What a great lineup. I never thought I would last to the end, but delicious artist after delicious artist kept wandering across the stage and I couldn't bear to leave my seat. Thanks again -- you got the best of me...
