Bio
Playing together since 1999 to rave reviews, including sharing the stage with such luminaries as The Undertones and Bad Manners, The Naildrivers energise audiences with their note perfect covers of music of the late seventies and early eighties. Bands like The Specials, The Beat, The Selector, Bad Manners, Madness , The Jam, The Clash, The Undertones and The Buzzcocks come to life at the hands of the Naildrivers The music they play can be described by many people in many different ways, ska, rock, punk, whatever, but at the end of the day it’s just good music that’s fun to dance to, as can be seen at any of their gigs, both the band and the audience generally end up in a lather of sweat and smiles. The Naildrivers are: Sean McDonnell. Sean is the singer with the band and has a musically chequered history, if you'll pardon the ska pun. He started singing in Dundalk with The Notorious Flying Rodgley Brothers. He has also sung with jazz big bands including shows in the National Concert Hall in Dublin. On Drums is Ian Walsh. Ian is a behemoth in the Cork drumming fraternity, having drummed with such luminary bands as Loophole and Bass Odyessy. Ian is also the drummer with his new project Perish The Thought. On bass is Gary Cotter. Gary, along with Ian, is the backbone of the band. Gary has played and recorded with many bands in Ireland, The U.K., and on the continent including the 4b2s, Dynamo and Underworld. On lead/rythem guitar and backing vocals is Dave Hynes. Dave also plays with Ian in Perish The Thought. On rythem/lead guitar and vocals is John 'Kav' Kavanagh. John also adds the trumpet to the mix. He also plays with Ian in Perish The Thought. On keys and flute (and eventually backing vocals) is Aaron Bennet. Aaron hails from Sheffield, England, but has been living in Ireland for the past number of years (he was even at the very first Naildrivers gig in the Half Moon). Aaron has played with numerous bands in cork such as ska/punk originals Blow and reggae/dub experimentalists The Beetroots. The latest recruit is Eva Power. Eva plays sax and falls in on lead vocals on the Selector tunes as well as backing vocals.
